People Who Give Us Hope: John Bourgeois

John Bourgeois has been working in local wetland protection and restoration for decades.  Most recently, he has served as the Executive Project Manager of the South Bay Salt Ponds Restoration Project, which is carefully reverting industrial salt ponds, mostly acquired from Cargill, back to their original tidal wetlands habitat.  Before bringing his experience to the largest tidal wetlands restoration project in the western United States, John worked on restoring Bair Island’s wetlands as an environmental consultant in the Bay Area, and as a restoration practitioner and wetland researcher in his home state of Louisiana.

Thank you John for all your years of public service at the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project! We are so thankful to have people like you working on giving our wetlands a fighting chance in the face of sea level rise and restoring lost ecosystems for the benefit of the public. Good luck in all your future endeavors!
