It’s all about Responsible Growth (or is it?)

IMG_3248It’s summer, and while that might mean less work for some, there’s no slowing down our three legislative advocates. Julie Hutcheson has been busy as ever advocating to protect farmland in southern Santa Clara County, and was quoted in a Morgan Hill Times article (City to spend $5.3 million on property for ball fields (7/17/15) by Michael Moore) after Morgan Hill’s City Council meeting last week.

As the article explained, she “told the council July 15 that they should have taken a closer look at a potential ball fields site near the intersection of Butterfield Boulevard and Monterey Road in south Morgan Hill, which is inside the city limits. This was one of the properties offered in response to the city’s 2012 request.” During that same meeting the council voted 3-1 to approve its plan for the SEQ. The annexation request will now go to the Santa Clara County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo).

“‘That (Butterfield) property was something that was viable, and they should have looked into it,’ said Hutcheson, who has also been a persistent critic of the city’s SEQ plan. ‘It’s all about responsible growth, and that’s something the citizens of Morgan Hill are looking for.’”

We’ll keep you updated as there are more opportunities to speak up for the protection of our region’s prime farmland. If you are interested in learning more or getting involved, please email us at: [email protected].
