My Epic Win for Beach Access in 2014

Martin's Beach-sunsetWith only 14 hours left until the clock strikes midnight, I hope you will join me and finish 2014 off right. Sign up to make a recurring gift to Committee for Green Foothills today.

I’ve been a Legislative Advocate with Committee for Green Foothills for more years than I’d want to count! I’ve had my share of epic wins along the way. After thousands of public meetings, and enough Environmental Impact Reports to make your head spin, I can still say this job never gets old. 2014 was no exception. It was another year to remember.

I am committed to preserving the right of all people to enjoy nature.

When billionaire Vinod Khosla blocked access to Martin’s Beach, a beloved coastal treasure on the San Mateo Coast, there was no way I was going to let him get away with it. The right of the people to access our beaches is guaranteed by the State Constitution as well as the California Coastal Act.

My favorite epic win of 2014 was helping to restore public access at Martin’s Beach. The Surfrider trial against Khosla was especially exciting as I was able to serve as an expert witness. It was an honor to have the chance to speak up in court about the detrimental impacts that cutting off access to a local beach can have. Judge Barbara Malloch must have agreed, because she has ruled in favor of Surfrider and the public.

This is an epic win for all people. It’s a wonderful example of the extraordinary things we can achieve when we work together and speak up as one.

Thank you for making our work possible. Happy New Year’s Eve!

Lennie Roberts
Legislative Advocate
