CGF Endorses Urban Growth Boundary Initiative in Gilroy

Committee for Green Foothills (CGF) has endorsed the Gilroy Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) initiative.  If approved by voters, the new long-term planning boundary will ensure Gilroy grows in a manner reflective of residents’ vision for their community.

The City Council would not be able to alter the UGB until the year 2040 except by another vote of the people or under very specific circumstances. These circumstances, such as a proven need for land for affordable housing, would require the City Council to make certain findings that establish the necessity for amending the UGB.

CGF commends the leadership and hard work of Gilroy Growing Smarter to get the initiative on the November 2016 ballot. This diverse group of Gilroy residents tirelessly worked to develop and petition for the initiative, and is now set to campaign for its passage. CGF views the voter approval of this initiative as extremely important to its mission and work in the southern part of Santa Clara County.
