San Carlos Park Protected on Important Aniversary for Preservation

I am please to report that on Monday, June 30, the San Carlos City Council voted against abandoning North Crestview Park.  It was CGF, along with Sierra Club, Loma Prieta Chapter, Defense of Place, Save North Crestview Park, and over 600 citizens who urged the council to honor the long-standing commitment by the city to permanently preserve this important open space/parkland.   Special thanks to councilmembers Matt Grocott and Bob Grassilli who listened to us; because abandonment requires a 4/5 vote of the council to place the “undedication” on the ballot, their two votes carried the day.

Coincidentally, the council’s pro-park vote was on the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln’s signing of the Yosemite Grant Act, which established Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove as protected land.  This led to the eventual establishment of the National Park System.  Whether Yosemite or North Crestview, every park and open space is important!

Thanks for speaking up – your voice does make a difference.
