Welcome to Our New Board Members

New board members: Shruti Gopinathan, Susan Hansch, Claudia Rossi

We are pleased to welcome three new board members and eight new advisory board members this year. Each brings unique skills to Green Foothills and is committed to being a champion for local nature.

Green Foothills’ Board of Directors is the ultimate authority of our nonprofit, responsible for ensuring that we adhere to our mission. Board members actively support the day to day work of Green Foothills, with a focus on planning, policy development, and fundraising. In February we published an article inviting the community to apply to our Board of Directors and conducted an extensive recruitment process. We made the process public, and we broadcast far and wide to support our goal of broadening the background and experience on our Board of Directors. We are so grateful for everyone who expressed interest and patiently went through the open recruitment process.

Meet the New Members of our Board

To that end, we have recently welcomed three new directors to our board– Claudia Rossi, Shruti Gopinathan, and Susan Hansch. We asked these extraordinary women why they applied and accepted our invitation to join our Board, and here’s what they told us:

“As a longtime healthcare provider, longtime education public servant, mother and South County resident, I am deeply honored to serve on the Green Foothills board. Protection of farmland, open spaces and natural resources is an imperative to ensuring we leave a healthier community to our children.”
– Claudia Rossi

“I was inspired to join the Board after learning about the 60-year history of Green Foothills in safeguarding open spaces that my family and I now cherish as Bay area residents. My aim is to further this legacy of actively preserving our fragile ecosystem from the effects of climate change by influencing policymakers and encouraging community action on sustainable land use.”
– Shruti Gopinathan

“I have long respected and been inspired by the amazing environmental advocacy, education, leadership, and partnering work of Green Foothills. I am thrilled to join the Board and to now have the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Green Foothills team and the broader community on vital environmental issues.”– Susan Hansch

Our board officers this year are continuing board members Ian Bain, President; Ann Monroe, Vice President; Nancy Federspiel, Secretary; and Greg Boro, Treasurer.

Welcoming New Advisory Board Members

Our Advisory Board has no governing or decision-making responsibilities, but its members support our work to help raise the organization’s profile, increase our effectiveness, and expand our reach to new sectors and communities. Over the past 6 months, we’ve welcomed eight new Advisory Board members – Amari Thomas, Brian Schmidt, Jeannie Entin, Jennifer Chang Hetterly, Julie Dominguez, Matt Burrows, Smita Garg, and Tamara Smith-Jones.

Thank You to Those Going Off the Board

Board terms are two years and can be renewed up to four times. Thank you to outgoing Board members Ricardo Samaniego, Matt Burrows, and Sarvenaz Fahimi, and to outgoing Advisory Board members Jeff Hosea, Nancy Reyering, and Lynn Stegner. We are very grateful for your service and hope that you will continue to be involved as volunteers with Green Foothills.
